It is known that the BC780XLT did not use this serial number protocol so it was likely instituted about 2001 with the follow up BC785D and BC250D which did. The REM-820S is an SMA mount designed specifically for use with the SDS100. It will fully seat on the scanner, and has an o-ring to maintain the weather resistance of the scanner. Explained in my note to them have worked with radios since the 1980's.
